FirstDogBarking is a web portal for pet owners, offering tips, links, discounts, and all kinds of perks and info for those who love pets. They needed a clean, modern, playful image to define their brand.
I began with several rough ideas, all focused on a dog image as a central mark, according to the client’s wishes. After several iterations, we settled on a stylized silhouette of a barking canine that resembled a rottweiler, raised up on his hind legs to roughly resemble the number 1, and with his front paw extended to form a subtle 'F' shape.
I continued to refine and streamline the shape and details of the dog image until it had a simple, clean, modern aesthetic. I chose a strong, compressed typeface that perfectly offset but wasn’t overshadowed by the bold solids in the mark. Black, red, and gray seemed to be the best choice of color palette, both stylistically and for overall contrast and balance, and I provided a suite of business cards and stationery prominently featuring the logo. The client was very happy, and so was I.
